What are the aims of this course?

Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice’s training takes place on the job but they may have to complete off-the-job training but they will also have to complete off-the-job training by day release. Business and administration apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification.

What are the areas covered by this course?

The Apprenticeship covers the following:

  • Supporting the business environment
  • Legislation within the business environment
  • Organisational requirements
  • Working effectively within the business environment
  • Planning and prioritising work
  • Communicating information
  • Basic IT applications and equipment
  • Improving self and the organisation
  • Presentation software
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Competition for places with employers can be fierce, so applicants will need to show that they are committed, happy to work as part of a team and individually, and able to use their own initiative. Good GCSE results in English and Maths (e.g. grades A-C) are preferred.

  • You must be aged 18 or above
  • You must be an EU citizen and have lived within the EU continuously for the last 3 years
  • You must not have a degree, HND, HNC, Foundation Degree or be studying towards any of these
  • You must be willing to sign up to our Apprentice scheme for 12 months
How is the course assessed?

The NVQ Certificate is assessed through portfolio building, tutor observation and assignments and the Certificate is assessed by assessment tests and an online test.

What qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:

  • HABC Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration (601/4107/4)
  • Functional skills in Maths, English and ICT
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the Business and Administration Apprenticeship at level 2 apprentices can go on to complete the Business and Administration Advanced Apprenticeship.

What are the career opportunities?

Apprentices with business and administration qualifications will be qualified to work in general administrative roles in many large and small companies both in the private and public sector. Apprentices who have completed their training could also go on to higher education in a college or university.
