Emergency First Aid at Work Level 2

What are the aims of this course?

This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification in first aid and become emergency first aiders in their workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training emergency first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment. The topics within this qualification are regarded by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as being important in maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in the workplace. The qualification provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills in emergency first aid.

What are the areas covered by this course?
  • Appreciate the circumstances when CPR is required, and then implement the relevant procedures.
  • Handle an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
  • Control bleeding
  • Recognise shock
  • Deal with minor burns
What qualifications do I need to do this course?

In order to register on to this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirements:

  • 16 years of age or above
  • It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English and maths.
How is the course assessed?

Through a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates the learner has met the required assessment criteria. Learners will be expected to apply and show evidence of both theoretical and practical knowledge in their portfolio.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course.

In addition to this it is also recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

Following the completion of this qualification, learners may wish to go on to take the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF)
  • Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation (QCF)
  • Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF).
